| The Game
is now in its seventh successful year of publication. It is still passionately
committed to the stories of the owners, breeders, trainers and thousands of devoted
backstretch employees who make the game of racing as fantastic as it is. Over
the next few months, you will find The Game to be even more exciting. The
Game is committed to continuing its monthly coverage of the entire spectrum of
the sport. As much as we will comment and analyze the decisions and events that
emanate from the executive offices at racetracks across the country and throughout
the world, the various racing commissions and Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency, we
will also profile the grooms, assistant trainers, vets, exercise riders, stewards
and all the fascinating people who comprise the mosaic of the sport. We
hold fast to the concept that horse racing in Canada is not just Toronto. It's
also Fort Erie, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Saskatoon and Vancouver.
Every issue of The Game will have stories and wrap-ups from those constituencies.
Every month, in her column Equine Health, Karen Briggs provides an insightful
and knowledgeable look at how to care for your horses. For a unique slant on the
racing game, we always look forward to Get Tied On, the sometimes hilarious, always
life-affirming column from track Chaplain Shawn. Just recently we started
printing the quirky EvenSteven columns of Steven Plaunt who files to us from Western
Canada. One of the first columns he wrote for us was nominated for a Sovereign
Award. Plaunt is a writer, story-teller and exercise boy and his stuff is always
a delight to read. We also have Peter Valing who is quickly immersing himself
in the British Columbia racing scene and sending us great features from the West
Coast. Every month, The Game has the stories, the people and the events
that shape horse racing. From breeders' reports, to how Canadians are doing at
tracks around the world, to racing in Europe, to the social get-togethers that
promote and enhance the sport, you will read about it in The Game. And,
perhaps most importantly, The Game knows it must reflect your concerns. We insist
on being accessible and responding to every letter, every e-mail and every phone
call. We want you to tell us what should be in The Game. Stacie Roberts
